Tips on How to Pass a German Language Class

Studying German Language is like studying any romance languages like French, Spanish or English and the following tips is to help language students to pass their German Language class successfully.  

• Write the words or phrases in one color. Translate them in another. 

• Better yet, write different types of words in different colors. For example, in German, nouns are masculine, feminine, or neuter. Write (on white index cards, one word per card) in blue for masculine, pink for feminine, purple for neuter, green for verbs, and orange for everything else (prepositions etc.). Then when you have to recall the word for a test, you automatically know what gender it is - that's important!! 

• For verbs, try writing all the different tenses on the side of the card where you've written the English definition. That way, you have to recall the forms of the verb as well as the definition. 

• Make sure you have all of your supplies. It is hard to do pg. 65 #1-4 if you don't have your book. 

• Use your new foreign language as a code whenever you are around friends who are in the class. Help teach some to those who are not. Look up the words you need for your conversations -- a much better vocab selection than any book will offer!
