Language is the way we communicate and relate to each other in a given community. There are many languages in the world; some of these languages are very essential to learn and study. Some of these important languages are English, Spanish, French, Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, German, Swahili, Russian, Italian and Sign Languages.
The reasons why one should study a second language cannot be overemphasized as I elaborate on four (4) of the reasons. These languages help us learn about a new culture, people and history; they help us to interact easily with variety of people who speak that particular language; it gives us international exposure and opportunities; and it also helps us to save money and travel freely around the world.
Reason No. 1 – Interaction with a Variety of People
Learning a new language aid us in getting to know a lot of people and also easily acquaint ourselves with them without any barriers;
Reason No. 2 – Learn a New Culture and History
Also, a new language opens the door to learn about a new culture; a new country; and natural tourist attraction sites that teaches and tells you (learner) a lot about its history;
Reason No. 3 – International Exposure and Opportunity
In addition, learning a new language gives you the opportunity to work with international organisations like the United Nations System; because about eight of the languages are recognised and used by the United Nations System and other well-known international organisations;
Reason No. 4 – Save Money and Freely Travel Around
Lastly, a new language gives you the opportunity to travel around the world freely without hassle or pain and you also save money as you can speak that particular language, nobody can cheat you, or you don’t have to pay money for translation.
These are some of the reasons why we need to learn a new language. It will boost your confidence, try out a new language, choose a language of your choice and start learning a new language today. You will not regret you did.
